Garden Plant Delivery Systems
Transportation is one element indirectly related to gardening. Breeders and plant growers normally deliver a bulk of plants to clients. Since some plants are highly sensitive and require careful handling, vehicles are specifically designed or converted for the effective transportation of garden plants. Sudden change in temperature must be avoided during the transportation of plants. Closed vehicles are more preferable over open trucks and vans. Another thing to note is that wind can break or kill the plants during the travel. Larger plants are obviously impossible to place inside SUVs and cars.

The effective transportation of garden plants
The back of pick-ups, trucks and vans will do but larger plants should not be laid down on their sides to prevent the wind from whipping and stripping them. It is also advisable to cover them with a cloth or tarp and tie them securely in place. However, smaller and less sensitive plants are easier to transport and can be carried inside ordinary vehicles. But remember that air conditioners can also adversely affect the plants. It is not also advisable to transport plants during the middle of day when the heat of the sun is intense. Try to cover the plants with cloth or screen the sunlight to reduce the heat. Avoid placing the plants inside the trunks. Do not hold the plants by their trunks or stem when lifting or moving them. Move them by lifting their containers or pots. When transporting plants during cold weather, heat up the vehicle first before placing the plants inside. Position your plants inside the vehicle making sure that their leaves do not touch the windows and the cold glass. Never allow any part of the plant to stick out the car window. When possible wrap the plants with cardboard, paper, bubble wrap or plastic to retain the heat. When transporting larger plants inside open trucks, let them lie flat on the truck floor, secure and cover them with insulator.
