The wonders of modern TV
TV – A truly modern marvel
It’s quite unbelievable to think that what started off a simple cathode ray tube in the early 20th century has now developed into a multi-billion dollar industry, with some key players dominating the market. Now a sleeker, slim line version is offered to the consumer as opposed to the big box that used to sit in peoples’ living rooms. It has become all the rage now to have a widescreen television with images at extremely high definitions, known as HD TV. Many brands will usually have a sticker with this on, so the buyer knows what they are getting. The actual development from the most basic of forms to what we have today has taken place at a faster pace than most people would have anticipated. For some it may seem as only yesterday they were watching their black and white TV in the comfort of the living room. But now, the full colour spectrum is offered and placed at the highest resolutions possible. This means you can enjoy playing games, watching movies and programmes at the highest quality available. It’s not just about the crystal clear images though, it’s also about the style and design of the actual product itself. The fact of the matter stands, that a modern television looks a hundred times sleeker and sexier than it ever did before. High Definition TV has paved the way for the future, and from this it’s difficult to see if things can get even better. But, with technology always developing it’s certain that something new and improved will come along.

Digitalism
It’s not only the resolution that has improved over the years. The move from analogue to digital TV has taken full force in recent times. This has further enhanced the capabilities of the television set. The rise of the digital age has taken effect in various forms. But perhaps the most obvious form is the compact DVD player. This has resulted in a shift from people using VHS video cassette tapes to watch their movies, to now buying Digital Versatile Discs as a less bulky option. Furthermore if a programme is missed, devices like a compatible DVD recorder enable people to catch up on their films or programmes. Also they provide a great opportunity for swapping media such as movies, with friends and family. These discs have been widely accepted as the standard, and due to their compact nature, it makes storage of them so much easier than VHS tapes. Now with the introduction of Blu-ray discs adding to the mix, which are set to take over from DVDs, modern TV has never been so interesting. The aforementioned discs are able to store more data on them than DVDs and at a higher definition, meaning that everything is optimized for the end consumer to give them entertainment at close to perfection. People can buy an upscaling DVD player if they want to get the most out of their existing collection, without having to fork out for the extra cost of buying all new Blu-ray discs.

A perfect fit
The switch over from analogue to digital is not the only development when it comes to home entertainment. Whilst in the early 20th century people were huddled together in their living rooms and straining their eyes to watch what was on pictured on the box, today it’s all about widescreen and TV is often, in the majority of households, and certainly in the UK (and elsewhere) enjoyed in this fashion. One really gets the impression of being in a cinema by watching a film in such a manner. Of course, most leading brands in television manufacture will offer a wide range of sizes. A big TV is ideal for a larger size room, and people buying television sets over 40 inches will usually place their set in their living room. After all this room is designed for sitting back and relaxing in, so it’s only fitting that the largest TV should be placed here. In addition, one may consider kitting out most of the rooms in the house with various sizes of television sets. There are various systems one can buy which synchronise what is being watched on the master television, so you can continue your viewing if you change rooms. Usually it’s best to mix up sizes; a small TV is ideally placed in areas such as the kitchen or bathroom. However, they should be strategically placed to avoid getting any water into the electronics of the sets. Most people will wall mount their television, in such rooms, to protect them from any damage.

The importance of clear and sharp images
Many people don’t realize that by not using a LCD TV, or a plasma television, and using something with a poor display quality, it can actually have a damaging affect on their eyesight. This is because over extended periods, looking at a display screen with poor image quality does put a strain on the eyes. In the long term, it could result in a need to wear glasses or eye contacts. Therefore, it makes sense investing in a high quality television, and something of high calibre such as a TV with a high definition display will ensure no trips to the optician need to be made anytime soon. If you are at the browsing stage, it might be an idea to ask the sales assistant to explain standard features that come with it, for example, HDMI, get the person to show you where the slot is located on the television. This is important because it will ensure you get the highest definition, for anything you may be plugging into the television set such as a computer games console. With all TV sets it’s always a good idea to go through the manufacturer’s guarantees and warranties to ensure you go into the purchase with open eyes. So if something should go wrong with it, or it gets accidentally damaged and you’ve still got the product under warranty, then the television can either be fixed or replaced. But, always check the terms and conditions of the sales agreement before.
